Global Eyes: Seeing Our Communities As God Does

From Region Six—the Northeast Region—
with Regional Directors Gregg and Stacy Horst:

April 2005

Thinking Globally

“We have become aquarium keepers—lost in our own world and so separated that we have no contact with those who need Christ,” states Paul Borthwick, adjunct professor of missions at Gordon College. Our neighborhoods are changing, the church is changing, and we must be aware of that change! The church of Jesus Christ is multi-ethnic—we can’t keep acting as though it is a predominantly white, American institution. How do we stay globally informed and active? One of Borthwick’s suggestions is that as we dress each morning, we check the tag on our collar to discover where the shirt was made and then pray for that country. It is a simple way to begin thinking globally. We can also pray that God will give us opportunities to meet and befriend people who come from other countries and cultures. God may enable you to lead one of your “new neighbors” into a relationship with Him. (Link to rest of story and photos…)

Please Pray:

Midwest Region (Region Two):

  • Pray for a smooth transition of leadership in Region Two as Wade Wadsworth replaces Pat Whalen as regional director on May 1.
  • Pray also for the workers needed to replace Wade in his nursing home ministry. Four of the six nursing homes are covered. One is covered by a layman who needs help. Two other homes still need workers for a Bible study and visitation.

Southern Region (Region Seven):

  • We have four approved candidates who are working at raising their support. Two, Joe Anderson and Bill Norris, are working hard to be full-time by summer. Please pray for God to provide the funds needed for them to start their ministries.
  • Bob Carvajal has a ministry waiting for him in New Orleans; however, he has a house he is selling in San Antonio, TX. Please pray the right buyer would be found so that he can be in the New Orleans by this summer.
  • Many doors are opening for missionary work in Georgia. Opportunities in inner-city Atlanta, a new church missionary in La Fayette, and the opportunity for a (still-to-be-recruited) area missionary to pioneer new ministries in North Georgia, along with many new relationships/contacts formed in Georgia, are just a few of the doors God is opening.
  • Our missionaries are preparing for summer ministries, which include camping and DVBS programs. To run smoothly and effectively, these programs require a large number of staff and a lot of preparatory work. Please pray that God would supply summer missionaries and qualified staff to share Christ and His love to those involved with these camping and VBS programs.
